Some of the comments are just heartwarming:

“I am Romanian and I am proud to see he can speak Romanian pretty good. Daniel is also my favorite player, not because of his bracelets, but because of his charisma and just for being a true Romanian, a really nice guy. I would love to meet him one day. You go Daniel, you can get twenty bracelets.”

“DANIEL NEGREANU it’s a Romanian player , and canadian , but hes parents are Romanian , so he is Ro , good that he has a great heart and in hes soul he knows he is romanian , GOOD JOB DANIEL NEGREANU !!”

“All the respect for him. In this interview, he tells that he’s considering himself a romanian. He could have said that he’s a canadian and denied romanian origins, but he didn’t do it. Also, like other romanians have said, he speaks romanian very well.”

It’s tough to follow poker and not know Daniel Negreanu. The 32 year old Canadian nicknamed “Kid Poker” for his youthful appearance and childlike enthusiasm is every bit a part of today’s poker boom as any of the big poker celebrities. A tremendous tournament poker talent, Daniel has been named Cardplayer Poker Player of the Year, has four World Series of Poker bracelets, has two WPT crowns, which you can read about in articles about the World Poker Tour, and millions of dollars in tournament earnings. He has his own poker blog that any player can enjoy, his own poker video game, and his own poker website, FullContactPoker.com. Daniel is also a fearless cash game player, appearing regularly at Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio, where the highest stakes cash games in the world take place, and appearing on all three seasons of High Stakes Poker on GSN, even getting up from the table to do some commentary for a brief time. You can also see Daniel outmaneuvering the world’s toughest opposition on televised poker shows like Poker After Dark, Poker at the Plaza and the Ultimate Poker Challenge. How can you beat a player like this?

No Free Cards

Daniel Negreanu is known for his ability to outplay opponents after the flop. He is highly skilled at putting opponents on hand and detecting weakness. He also plays a wide variety of hands, making it difficult to put him on any particular holding. If you’re going to come into a pot and Daniel Negreanu is at the table, you’re going to want to come in raising. Do everything you can to get Daniel out of the pot early, or not to come in at all, because if you let him hang around, you could be in big trouble.

Bet For Value

One thing Daniel has struggled with is getting away from a hand on the river. Even when he makes one of his classic reads, telling the opponent what he likely holds, it’s hard for Daniel to give up on a good hand if he’s gone all the way to the end. Therefore, when you hit your miracle straight on the end, bet it. Don’t wait for Daniel Negreanu to bet for you, because if you’re behind, he probably won’t, costing you a precious opportunity to get some chips from a world class player.

Be a Protégé

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Daniel has offered a golden opportunity for a lucky player to become his protégé, learning tips and tricks for becoming a poker star directly from Daniel himself. The first protégé, Brian Fidler, has already experienced some tournament success. Details on future protégé opportunities should be available on the FullContactPoker.com website.

Daniel Negreanu plays this middle pair to perfection in position against Dan Shack in High Stakes Poker. In this GSN extra video, Daniel explains his thinking processes during this particular hand, and I have to say Daniel explains everything crystal clear…

The pre-flop raise, how he interpreted Shack’s hesitation, the reason for his small blind continuation bet, and the reasoning behind the turn check and his excellent call of Dan’s river bluff.

It looks like a standard hand, but Daniel shows us he’s doing more than just HOPING he’s good there…

Went into a discussion with a poker friend of mine. We discussed some of Daniel’s weak calls on the river in various High Stakes Poker seasons, and we pretty much broke it down to these factors:

Daniel Negreanu did not want to get bluffed on national television.

Daniel flopped a lot of hands, got beaten a lot times — and couldn’t believe it kept happening.

Daniel wanted information. He was paying for information (a lot of cash, though).

Daniel was steaming.

I’m afraid most of it was 2 and 4 — and 50% was cold deck as well. Whatever it was, we both agreed on some of the calls being bad.

Then again — if I was dealt his cards against those opponents (I mean can you fold a straight to Sam Farha?) good chance I would have busted. Meh.
