Daniel Negreanu plays this middle pair to perfection in position against Dan Shack in High Stakes Poker. In this GSN extra video, Daniel explains his thinking processes during this particular hand, and I have to say Daniel explains everything crystal clear…

The pre-flop raise, how he interpreted Shack’s hesitation, the reason for his small blind continuation bet, and the reasoning behind the turn check and his excellent call of Dan’s river bluff.

It looks like a standard hand, but Daniel shows us he’s doing more than just HOPING he’s good there…

Went into a discussion with a poker friend of mine. We discussed some of Daniel’s weak calls on the river in various High Stakes Poker seasons, and we pretty much broke it down to these factors:

Daniel Negreanu did not want to get bluffed on national television.

Daniel flopped a lot of hands, got beaten a lot times — and couldn’t believe it kept happening.

Daniel wanted information. He was paying for information (a lot of cash, though).

Daniel was steaming.

I’m afraid most of it was 2 and 4 — and 50% was cold deck as well. Whatever it was, we both agreed on some of the calls being bad.

Then again — if I was dealt his cards against those opponents (I mean can you fold a straight to Sam Farha?) good chance I would have busted. Meh.

This hand is probably one of the most talked about hands on the internet. In total, the hand has been viewed over 2 million times on Youtube, and the reason why is dead simple; it’s one of the biggest pots ever to be shown on television, and it’s a prime example of a cold deck situation, this time with Daniel Negreanu on the receiving end of the beating.

What adds to the greatness of this hand is the excellent commentary by Gabe Kaplan, who gets rightfully so gets extremely excited…

I hate to see Daniel go “huh?” when Gus moves check-raises all-in on the river… I really do feel his pain. Poker can be a tough game.

(anyone noticed Antonio folding AQ pre-flop? Amazing… )
